The (in)significance of religion

The relevance of religion is based on one and one question only: is there more to this world than dust? If not, religion is no more than matter, as everything is. But if religion is matter, we face unanswered riddles. Riddles of great significance to the human race, since they define our being:

  • What is existence? Does existence exist at all? How does awareness of existence rise from dust? How is existence significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is life? How did life come to be? How can life rise from dust? How is life significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is consciousness? Does consciousness exist? How did consciousness rise from dust? How is consciousness significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is morality? Does morality matter in a world of coincidence and matter? How can morality rise from dust? How is morality significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is purpose? Can people have ever survived without purpose? How does purpose rise from dust? How is purpose significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is logic? Can people have ever survived without logic? How can logic arise from dust and be able to predict matter at the same time? How is logic significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is meaning? Does meaning exist if there is only matter and coincidence? How can meaning rise from dust? How is meaning significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is time? How can we understand the difference between time and eternity? What in us understands time? How did time rise from dust? Let alone awareness of time. How is time significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is god? What is the awareness of god, if god does not exist? How did awareness of god, in addition to awareness of our self, rise from dust? How is god significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is me? What is the idea of me as a person? Where does this identity idea com from? How can identity rise from dust? How is me significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is value? Does anything have intrinsic value? How can value rise from dust? How is value significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is order? Does order exist? How does the notion of order rise from dust? How is order significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?
  • What is language? Does language bear truth? How do we verify such notions? How did language rise from dust? How is language significant from the perspective of coincidence as a result of evolution?

The real struggle is the never ending realisation that we rise from matter, dust. Yes, life is something incredible, an experience most of us would not miss. But even this life attitude is as arbitrary as killing for a living, or ending ones own life.

But if there is more to this world than matter, if there are answers to these questions, if there are absolutes to be found in something else than matter and dust, then there is existence, there is life, there is consciousness, there is morality, there is purpose, there is logic, there is meaning, there is time, there is God, there is me, there is value, there is order, and so on. The mere idea of the possibility of this truth is like a breath in an existence of matter and dust.

Or this is just an arbitrary outcome of matter, evolved to senses we can read and understand, if you prefer.
